The Problem with HIIT Workouts

I am OBSESSED with this topic! If you have read somewhere that high intensity workouts are THE way to go, PLEASE stop and read today’s email update.

HIIT stands for “High Intensity Interval Training” and usually refers to cardio-specific workouts. Boot camp and Crossfit-style workouts also apply here because they are also high intensity and interval based using resistance moves.

“High Intensity” basically means that you are getting into the “Ugh, I’m going to die” territory during any given moment of a workout. If you rated your workout on a scale from 1 to 10 where 1 equals falling asleep on your couch during a lazy Sunday, and a 10 equals the HARDEST thing you have EVER done, “High Intensity” usually represents a 9 or 10 on that scale.

Please note: I am NOT saying that HIIT and high intensity workouts are “bad”! In fact, they are super important…at the RIGHT time for the right REASONS.

I find it hard to feel satiated with meals when I’ve done HIIT workouts which in turn causes me to gain weight quickly. I don’t get it! The older I get my body responds better to more gently approach like barre class, but I’ve been an athlete all my life and that gets boring…..so its weight or boredom. lol

Hi Magan, I personally love my strength workouts! I would suggest super setting your strength workouts. So that way you are up and going, instead of just sitting around for your next set. Try it out and see how you like it =)

I am so excited to find you – I really enjoyed this video and look forward to more. I have been following at HIIT style workout for 8 weeks now with the promise/hope that it would change my body. As I am learning to trust my intuition more, I am starting to get hints from my body that it isn’t working. I am truly exhausted, craving sugar and carbs more than ever. And while I am getting stronger, I feel like I am too tired to workout. I turn 50 this December so I need to find what is going to work for me soon:) Thank you!!
    All the best, Sharon
