As you may know, I have been in the health and fitness industry for….ahem…almost 20 years. Despite my degree in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition (WE ARE…. PENN STATE!) I fumbled along in my fitness efforts for the majority of those 20 years. Can you believe it!? As my 40th birthday approached I was terrified. I had this idea that 40 was something not to be celebrated and that if I didn’t do something to change this idea I was going to be muy depressed. I knew deep in my heart that I felt like a failure as a fitness professional because I had never gotten “the body I always wanted.” I knew I would party hard if I arrived on my 40th birthday in the best shape of my life. So I did it. Once and for all. Yay me.
And boy, was it an interesting journey! I arrived at the big 4-0 hot, fit, energetic and changed. I know that you are whispering, “Well how did ya do it lady!?!?” Now that’s a looooong story – and one that I will share with you as we go forward. What I will tell you is this: the actions I took to make my dream body step out almost don’t matter. I’m going to share with you what did matter and how you can use my ideas to create change for yourself. I can tell you the powerful, effective things that I did every day that made allllllll the difference in the world.
Ready? Sit down and put your thinking cap on cuz this is gonna get heavy! Right now, think of your biggest health, body or fitness goal. (Jeopardy music please….)
Here’s the ONLY thing you need to know about that goal:
You CAN achieve it.
Whoaaaa…. I realized that for all of those years when I wasn’t achieving my goals, it was because something deep inside of me honestly believed that I couldn’t. I believed that a super fit body was something that only other people could achieve. It was completely irrational – and stupid – but I didn’t believe I had the gusto needed to get there.
You have every thing you need right now to achieve that goal. Any other belief is simply a big fat illusion and simply an excuse. You CAN achieve it. And I can give you real world examples of people in your exact situation who have done it. I can show you a woman who is over 40 with 5 kids and a job and she is in better shape than me. Yeah, she’s incredible.
And you are too. You. Are. Incredible.
And you have EVERY tool you need right now to achieve your goal. It will take some dedication, compromise, hard work and learning, but you CAN do it. And that’s how I did it. I finally stopped allowing myself the disservice of excuses. At the end of the day, I was able to find a TON of excuses. I won’t allow that of myself anymore. Your goal is important. Believe it. Believe you CAN.
